Also my Dad's family is just a few of us as most don't live local and my grandfather died (my grandmother is still living). So how do I handle this sorrow and pain?

We will see my Dad's family but we see them always which is good (they are great) but that joy of having both families is gone this year.

We are close but this Christmas all the pain of when my Mom's side was broken will return.

Come Christmas I will see one aunt but the others are travelling (two with in-laws and one on a cruise). So this brings up all the pain and feelings of when I was a kid and my mother wouldn't let me see her family because her Dad was an alcoholic.
