One aunt isn't close to the family on my Mom's side so she doesn't come to Christmas. Does she not really count as family therefore?

The only events she has been at in the past 5 years where we saw her family were a 2nd cousin's funeral and once they past through (4 years ago). So are she and her kids family or just distant relatives?

She's missed the last 4 Christmas' (counting this year), Our cousin's wedding, two baptisms, a great-aunt's funeral, My sister's wedding, and my grandfather's 80th birthday.

She is distant from the family and at odds with her siblings (mostly her own doing). So do she and her kids not count as family even though they are relatives due to DNA?
